Dear Parents,

Over the last two years, in response to parental concerns, the administration put measures and procedures in place to ensure the safety of our kids.  Those measures included increased security at entrances, new sign in and sign out procedures for visitors, and a specific plan for events held during the school day.

These changes were not made to eliminate community involvement in the schools, but to increase the community’s confidence in our school’s safety.  Included in these safety measures are policies regarding community participation in classroom events such as parties. To ensure the safety of our students, only parents that have a current background check on file with the Superintendent’s office may attend the Christmas and Easter parties with their children.   Our main concern is keeping the 400 students safe and accounted for at all times. That is an impossible task when there is an unlimited number of people inside the school building.

Currently, background checks may be obtained at the Ross-Pike Educational Service Center.  Please indicate to the personnel performing the background check that it must be coded for educational clearance. Beginning in February 2020, background checks may be obtained in the Superintendent’s Office at Huntington Local Schools.

We appreciate parents that want to be involved with their students and hope that you all will take advantage of the opportunities to do so at our many community events held outside of the regular school day.  Please know that as an administration and staff, we go home at night thinking of and caring about your children. Community is important to our success as a school district and for our kids to feel supported. Our administration apologizes for any confusion regarding the party policy and hope that we can continue to work together to find ways to move Huntington Local Schools forward.

Go Green!

Sincerely,

Huntington Administration Team
