Huntington Local Schools in conjunction with Paint Valley Local Schools honored Military members past and present at the Varsity Girls’ and Boys' game on January 18th.

Lifelong Huntington Township resident, former State Representative and Navy veteran Ray Pryor presented the game ball for the girls' game. The Lady Huntsmen defeated the Bearcats 38 - 24.

Following the girls’ game, the Ohio Patriot Guard Riders presented the colors for each branch of service. Riders presenting the color included Chris Thacker (Army), Bert Blevins (Marine Corps), Robert Young (Navy), Thomas Fox Sr (Air Force), and Robert Olejnaczak (Coast Guard). The Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post #108 Color Guard presented the Colors for the National Anthem.

Paul Gire Jr, the father of Army Staff Sergeant Joshua Gire, presented the game ball for the boys' game.  A Huntington graduate, Staff Sergeant Gire gave his life while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom. Our Huntington boys lost a hard fought game in the last seconds, 51-53.

Our district thanks all those who have served, are currently serving and their loved ones who also bear the weight of their sacrifice.  We are the Home of the Free because of the Brave.
